HOW TO PACK YOUR BAGS

HOW TO PACK YOUR BAGS

Depending on with which other vehicles you compare the Can-Am Spyder, you may consider that it can pack a lot or not. Spyder RT storage spaces, topic of this report, are very small compared to the storage you have in an automobile but they are also very large if you compare them to some motorcycles storage space.Either way, there are a multitude of tricks to “intelligently” pack and ensure you do not lack on anything before resorting on buying a trailer.

THE STORAGE SPACE

photo.1When purchasing their Spyder RT Limited version, all owners have, on their vehicle, the Can-Am molded storage cases. For other Spyder RT owners, it took them some extra dollars to get them. Without saying that the BRP cases are absolutely essential, those who use them appreciate the fact that they fit perfectly into each storage space of the vehicle.Personally, I opted for the purchase of the front and lateral cases. I refrained from purchasing the rear case, using that trunk as a carry-all that is still well organized.

LUGGAGE RACK

You want to carry a little more? There is the solution to add a chromed rack on the trunk. Using elastic bands, a bag can be placed there.

OTHER STORAGE ACESSORIES

The BRP rear trunk folding shelf, sold as an accessory, is very convenient to drop objects of common use such as mobile phones, tablets, cases for eye or sun glasses, caps, etc.

The BRP pocketbook, also available as an accessory, adjusted to the glove compartment, is very useful for placing money, credit cards, driver’s license, vehicle registration, etc.

BAGGAGE: TIPS AND SUGGESTIONS

Clothing

Packing for a trip on a Spyder is not very different from doing it for a trip down South or in Europe because, in both cases, you will have to make some choices. And most importantly, with experience, you will find that we often bring a lot of unnecessary stuff.Depending on the destination and season, the choice of clothing specifically may somewhat vary. You are heading to a warm destination but you are afraid of hitting some colder weather? You could bring a garment with long sleeves that you can layer on top of other lighter clothing. Lined jackets have the same utility and almost all Spyder drivers and passengers have at least one.If you identify in advance, by searching the internet, Laundromats on your route, you can bring less clothes. And if the Laundromats in question are next to restaurants, you can enjoy a meal while waiting for the laundry to be done. That way, you lose less time.

Other items

For bathroom accessories, you can significantly reduce their volume by buying small sizes or transferring large formats in small plastic bottles. Toothpaste, shaving cream, makeup products can thus be reduced to their simplest expression.

For electronic items such as cameras, mobile phones or electronic tablets, miniaturization has made so much progress that the required space to communicate and create memories will not be very great. If you are traveling in pair however, you can bring only one phone and one tablet by advising your loved ones or by temporarily transferring all your communications to a single device.

Tips for saving space and storage

Here is a list of tips that will save you space. Remember, every little gain, when all added together, will make you realize huge space savings.

photo.3.1   Any bag carries a considerable amount of air, particularly inside clothing. Roll tightly your clothes and they will become more compact by eliminating much of the air they contain. Clothes will certainly be the most voluminous items you carry. Some clothes are made of dense materials such as synthetic fibers. Naturally, they will potentially be more expensive than natural fibers such as cotton. But quality has a price and that price may not be so high if one makes a calculation based on the shelf life of a garment. Good quality synthetic fibers will take less space and last longer.

Instead of bringing a host of charging cables for all your electronics, grab a universal charging tray, on which all your devices will recharge

-Remove from the glove compartment the molded polystyrene module. You will gain some space there.

¬† –Spyder RT cases contain, often unsuspected, unoccupied space. The following photos will reveal some of those storage spaces:

¬†¬† –All lids have hollow spaces where you can add soft material.Ideally, by sticking on a net in the hollow lids, objects remain in place when opening the case.

Under the driver’s seat, Velcro strips will allow you to add small objects that are not used often, in addition to the small tools that are already there.

Helmet or helmets

Personally, I travel with one helmet (shell type). If it is really cold, I add on a hat and a mask and / or a scarf. I love feeling the natural elements, the hot or cold temperatures, the wind, etc. I wear aviator style glasses and I bring in addition a half-visor when it is really hot.Travelling with two helmets requires a huge sacrifice in space and it will be an almost impossible mission on a long trip with two occupants on the Spyder.

Neck keychains

Stop misplacing your Spyder key in your many pockets; get yourself a key chain that you will place around your neck.

USE ZIP LOCK BAGS

The use of Zip Lock bags to properly separate your items by category is a MUST. You will easily find your objects that do not scatter themselves in the storage spaces or carry-all trunk.

  CHECKLIST

MAKING A CHECKLIST is my best advice for you to make sure not to bring too much and also not to forget anything. I will share with you, except for clothes, my own checklist.
